Getting Better

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

On 24 November 1999, the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA), in co-operation with five European patients' organisations, organised a conference in Brussels entitled "Getting better: developing mechanisms to ensure the best benefit for patients from medical progress". The five European patients' organisations were: European Alliance of patient and parent organisations for Genetic Services and innovation in medicine (FAGS), the European Coalition of Positive People (ECPP), European Patients' Voice, the European Organization/or Rare Disorders (Eurordis) and the Global Alliance of Mental Illness Advocacy Networks-Europe (GAMIAN-Europe).

ISSUES

At the conference about 140 participants, including members of European patient's organisations, EU decision makers, academic researchers and representatives of the European pharmaceutical industry, examined the future of European health policy and how new developments will influence patient access to innovative medicines.
